I'm starting the transition of all my domain names from GoDaddy to NameCheap. You might be asking Why I Switched From GoDaddy to NameCheap For All My Domain Registrations, but it boiled down to the fact that NameCheap is cheaper and has a much cleaner, better interface.
In the process of switching I had a question about the how NameCheap would handle domain names which were paid through GoDaddy for several years already. Would I lose all that time if I made the switch? I decided to ask NameCheap by using their handy dandy chat button (which is found at the bottom of all authenticated pages on their website). Here is the transcribe, word for word, with NameCheap.
Your Question: I have a domain name with GoDaddy that I'd like to transfer over to NameCheap, but the domain name is registration is good all the way through 2020. If I transfer the domain over, what will my costs be? Will the length of the registration transfer over?
Please wait, an operator will be with you shortly.

14:18 Inna Nedostupenko: May I know the domain name, please?
14:18 Jason Jensen: bakerstreetsystems.com
14:19 Jason Jensen: but I have a bunch of other domain names which are in the same boat.
14:19 Jason Jensen: But that one should be a good test one
14:19 Inna Nedostupenko: Thank you
14:20 Inna Nedostupenko: The transfer price for a .com domain is $9.87. The domain will be renewed for 1 year along with the transfer
14:20 Inna Nedostupenko: 1 year renewal is added to the current expiration date and not to the transfer one
14:20 Jason Jensen: So can you give me specifics with the bakerstreetsystems.com?
14:21 Inna Nedostupenko: So, the new expiration date for your domain will become 21 October 2021 after the transfer
14:21 Jason Jensen: OK, that's what I wanted to hear.
14:22 Jason Jensen: I would NOT lose the extra time that I already paid to GoDaddy. Correct?
14:22 Inna Nedostupenko: Yes, I confirm that you would not lose this time for your domain
14:22 Jason Jensen: Awesome, that's what I wanted to know. You've answered all my questions. Thanks!
14:22 Inna Nedostupenko: My pleasure, Jason
14:22 Inna Nedostupenko: If there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know.
