I've been working a lot with video transcoding and I've been using the amazing library, FFMPEG, to do it. FFMPEG has a lot of configuration options and it sometimes feels like you're drinking out of a firehose trying to get it all up and running. Fortunately, I've been down this road, and this will be the "executive summary" of how to get FFMPEG setup.

Prerequisites

  • Mac with a recent version of OSX. I'm currently running El Capitan.
  • Homebrew

Installation Command

Just open up a terminal and copy and paste the entire command below into your terminal. Homebrew will take care of the rest.

First Time Install

brew install ffmpeg --with-faac --with-fdk-aac --with-ffplay --with-freetype --with-frei0r --with-libass --with-libvo-aacenc --with-libvorbis --with-libvpx --with-opencore-amr --with-openjpeg --with-opus --with-rtmpdump --with-schroedinger --with-speex --with-theora --with-tools --with-libvidstab

Reinstall

brew reinstall ffmpeg --with-faac --with-fdk-aac --with-ffplay --with-freetype --with-frei0r --with-libass --with-libvo-aacenc --with-libvorbis --with-libvpx --with-opencore-amr --with-openjpeg --with-opus --with-rtmpdump --with-schroedinger --with-speex --with-theora --with-tools --with-libvidstab
